I was installing U joints on my 77 4x4 the other day, when i look at one of the new joints and see that the lip that holds the retaining clip had broken off the collar. The part it broke off of was the cv collar, which holds in that cv joint. Put the truck back together and it shakes bad. Do yall think i should try to fix or just buy a new collar? Also one of the U joint caps on the rear slip yoke wouldn't seat enough to put the clip in. Anyone ever have that problem? I have never installed harder U joints. Please help...

Im not real clear on what you are trying to describe.
If there is a piece missing from the double cardan joint, then it appears that you will need a new joint at the least, or a new shaft.
These are not terribly expensive to replace. A good driveshaft shop can do it for less than you think.
As far as the joint not going in far enough to get the external snap ring in, or the internal clip (not sure which you have) each has a similar symptom as well as a solution.
This is common when one or more of the needles has fallen into the cap, and wont allow the cap to go on any further.
Remove the cap and inspect for the fallen needle. If you do not, it will destroy the cap in a matter of a few miles. Eventually, the cap will come off, and you run the risk of severe damage to the yoke itself.
Yeah what I'm talking about some people call the H joint. Had the U joint installed right (or so i thought) and it was swiveling loosely. I greased the ujoint before i was going to put it back in the truck... look at it and the lock ring is gone and the lip is busted out. And on the rear yoke.. if one of the bearings had fallen out of alignment, dont you think it would bind up? it seems to spin just fine also...
