ok so my turbo pedistal is leaking oil... bad.. i know i have to remove the turbo to replace the seals.. but i have never removed my turbo before.. do i have to take both the intake housing and exaust housing off to get to the bottom two bolts of the up pipe?? or is there an easier way?? please help.. thanks
the flange bolts are not that bad to crack loose, a pain but not bad. you DO NOT have to take apart the turbo, the way i removed my turbo is got a stubby 15mm open end wrench and interlocked it with a longer wrench and used the boxed end on the bolt itself and heave like your life depended on it! haha, leverage is key in this instance, and there just simply isnt the room for it, use quality tools, cant stress this enough! if you strip a bolt on the pedistal, sell the truck lol
I just pulled and rebuilt my turbo. when your pulling the bolts off the collector the best tool i could come up with another person on here designed im not sure who but they are a genuis. take a 15mm wrench and cut about 3" off with the boxend bend the 3" tab that is left 90 degrees and weld it to a 1/2 " extension. it makes an invaluable offset tool so you can get to those bolts witha breaker bar. also on the pedistal bolts they are all 10 mm the bolts in the collector are 13mm the nuts on the bottom two collector studs are 15mm and the ebpv bolts are 8mm. take off the ebpv and the intake before you try to pull it. on the back pedistal bolts the one on the driver side requires a wobbly 1/4" drive w/ a 10mm socket. extend up then go to 3/8 or 1/2 wratchet to break it loose. look close its behind the round part of the ebpv actuator you can just barely see the top of it. hope that helps and oh yeah lots and lots of patience the first time lol
