turning up pump.

Well what I'm saying is that i have room to turn my pump up beeing that I dont have any black smoke.I do have a pyro.I turned it up on the back of the pump with an allen and it is a lot more responsive and a good bit more powerfull I turned it a half turn and it has barly efected my pyro temp and I can get just a little bit of black smoke now.Is there another way to turn it up in a different way?
Thanks any added input would be great.

A little black smoke under full throttle is all you want. Anything more than that is just a waste...

What year is your truck?

There is another screw on the passenger side of the ip, its behind the trianlge shaped plate, and takes a 5/32nd allen wrench, you have to pull the oil filler off the 6.9 or the inspection cover plate on the 7.3 little plate on the front of the ip housing and rotate the engine till the dowl pin is at 12 o'clock position, then you can turn it up, turn the allen wrench towards you to increase fuel, only go a little at a time, and watch the pyro

It is inside the tryangle plate you are not suppose to mess with the one on the back.

I've never heard of anybody ruining anything with that adjustment. But just to be safe I would set it back to its stock position. The 5/32 allen under the Tri-plate is sometimes hard to find. You may need a mirror and a strong flashlight, all while barring the engine over.

And if you rotate the engine to were the dowl pin behind the little cover on the front of the ip housing rotate that to 12o'clock position, you wont need no mirror, i have never had to use anything i rotate the engine were its supose to be, stick the wrench in there were its supose to be feel around till it goes in the allens then i turn

I thought I read something about turning up the pump is pretty much useless and won't do anything, but give you black smoke unless you install a turbo.

your mpg depend on your driving style
but turning up your pump might make it go up or down it deppends how low it was set to start with
if your truck is an ex fleet truck then turning it up a little will increes your fuel economy as the pump was set lower so that the enigne could with stand running at the limiter for exstended periods of time

turning the pump up will give you more power... to a point as what you are doing is messing with your oxygen to diesel ratio so that there is no left over oxegen in the cylinder with stock settings not all of the oxygen is being used
