Injector problems?

I have had my 06 Power Stroke since October 2008. I live in Indiana and it doesn't get much colder than 0ºF. Last year the coldest it got down to was -5 to -10º and I noticed it started a little rough. Thinking it was because of the fuel I ignored it. Now it starts rough every day and has since mid October. After about 2-3 min of running the roughness ends and it calms down. Also, after about 2-3 or more hours of sitting off, it doesn't turn over like it should. It is kind of hard to explain, but it "takes its time" reaching idle. This Thursday and Friday 12-10 and 12-11 the low temperature is going to drop from being mid to upper 20s to being 16-17. I think I have figured out that it is one of the injectors. Tomorrow 12-8 i will upload a video on youtube and embed it in this thread, if it would help.

See if you can pull some codes with it. It could be injectors, or it could be the FICM or both. It would help to see what kind of codes it's throwing. You say it rides rough, does it have any lose of power? Do you smell unburned diesel fuel(would be indicative of a leaking injector)?

what kind of oil weight do you run and how many miles on the injectors? I have the same problem and I believe it to be injector stiction(spool valves are sticking), truck runs on less than 8 until warm it's bad I just need to figure out which injector.

You could try a lighter oil and see if that helps since it is pretty cold where you are. Sounds like you have some stiction, have you had the ficm flash updated ever?

Stiction - or also called oil-latching:

There is a small spool valve in the top of the injector that controls the flow of high oil pressure fed to the intensifier piston in the fuel injector. That spool valve only moves .017", back and forth, on and off every time the injector fires. Many factors play in to how well that valve works such as, oil temp, oil quality, normal wear, ambient temp, and many others. As this valve ages it polishes itself inside the bore of the spool valve and as the spool valve slams back and forth it can set up the condition like a suction cup, hanging the valve to one side or the other. This uncommanded uncontrollable condition is called stiction. Mostly its a rough run cold condition but in severe cases it can be a no start or pretty harsh misfire condition. Oil that stays inside the valve on a hot
engine shutdown and is allowed to cool slowly in the injector can aggravate the condition on restart, so the newest reflash uses inductive heat after shutdown to keep the oil warm, keep its viscosity low, and maximize the oil flowability to purge the oil from them.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

In the cold your truck will like a 5w/40 oil a lot better than 15w/40.

I doubt it's going to be an instant cure, but the sooner the better I suppose.

Agreed. Even if you get the updated flash you could really use synthetic 5-40 with those temps. Rotella syn in the blue bottle is $20 a gallon at Walmart. My truck runs like crap on 15-40 but it loves the 5-40 syn. Try it, if you don't like it you can always switch back next OC.
