I have a new to me 1997 Expedition. The lights for the heater controls don't work, but all the other dash lights do. It is probably the bulbs in the control.
What size bulbs are they, and how do I get the cotroller out to replace them?
I couldn't believe that all my bulbs had failed in my control when I took it apart, but they were.
Even the blower switch back-light was bad.
The bulbs aren't replaceable in a conventional plug and play sense.
With my Navigator, the bulbs were soldered in. I un-soldered them and installed replacement bulbs I bought from an electronics supply place.
It was a tricky job, how good are your miniature soldering skills?
The get the control out, you pop the radio trim off and then remove 4 screws that hold the control in. The bottom 2 screws fight a little and it's a tight fit but you can get them out.
My soldering skills are passable anyway. What kin/size/etc bulb did you use? If you ordered it online, can you provide the link to it?
Thanks

I don't see any reason you couldn't use LED's as long as you get ones about the same size, you'd just need to get some rated for 12 volts and figure out the + and - side of the connection, which would be easy with a meter.
Anyone know if LEDs can be used instead of incandescent bulbs and the LED specifications to do so?
Yes. I originally used LEDs but they're too directional and don't light up well enough.
The write up is for a different style bulb. The bulbs on the control I had apart were soldered right onto the circuit board.

Update to the OP: I would pull the control head out before ordering parts. I did some Internet digging and have seen a few control heads that had serviceable or replaceable bulbs.
I can only speak with great certainty that my vehicle in my garage has non-serviceable lights.
