How long did it take you to do? I can't spend a lot of time on it but the shop quoted me $500 to do it.

very good write up! the reseal kit from diesel specialists inc. for $59. is cheaper than going to international and ford. o rings were about $10. each at international and the one gasket at ford is $27. the guy at international gave me the other gasket for free . i dont know what it costs. i'm still yet to reseal it . parts are sitting on the seat, but it still leaks . thought it would have at least helped out.

Travis, thanx for the write up .. I had to tacle this on my truck a day or so after youre posting and have to say ur info helped alot!!! My issue was not o rings... the rear cap(filter side) was cracked due to rust on the outside of the cooler tube the rust expanded and cracked the rear cap. I replaced the cooler tube, rear cap,o rings and gaskets....go to go now!!!!

I posted the following in another "tread" (as i was told). Is this the same thing as what your saying.
Thanks

"Hello all.

I've got a 93 F350 7.3L non turbo. I noticed some oil leaks the past few weeks so I changed the oil and replaced broken seal on drain plug thinking that would fix it. I live in San Antonio Tx. Never gets cold here. Last night it got in the low teens. Finally got it started and noticed it was really bleeding from the oil filter housing close to the front. Had to take the truck so I grab 4 Gals of oil and headed out. Got to work and check. Not bleeding just a few drips. Let it set and checked oil. Plenty of oil on dipstick. I’ve read previous posting. Seen some diagrams none of which looks like what I’ve got unless it is the front part that attaches to the tube (about 2 1/5 in dia.) that connects to filter. It looked like it was leaking where the “tube” connects to the front bracket assembly. HELP please"

this sounds like the oil cooler o-rings on our psd's but you have an IDI so i'm not sure. might try the IDI forum, they should know all about them. i know on our psd's the o-rings will leak fast when its colder, but as they warm up they will start to seal a little bit and it won't leak as much. sounds like your problem is the oil cooler

Bring it on dude. now that Roy and I did mine i'm pretty sure another one wouldn't hurt. how bad is it leaking?? bad enough that we gotta do it in the cold?? i'd use the filter side end cap from one of your later model coolers too.

What's better about the later model filter cap?

I have an IDI as well, so I can go take a look to see if it's the same oil cooler as the PSD. I used PS oil filters on my IDI because they were twice the length, but the base was identical, as was the oil filter location.

I think I'm losing it.
I had the cooler resealed and now it leaks only when trucks sits in 20 something degree weather. The shop is telling me it could be the timing chain is warpedI was advised to just plug it in and it should be ok....
WTF Has anyone had this situation happen to them?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the o-rings to me. they might have pull the cooler, replaced just the gaskets, and put it back without changing the o-rings. the o-rings will seem oil when the truck is cold if they are bad, but once they heat up they seal a little better. change the o-rings, get some new gaskets, pull the oil cooler yourself, look it over real good for small cracks, change the o-rings, put it back together. can be done in a couple hours. down to 45 minutes if you have a 4x4 and can get to everything easier than i could. haha

Snow ho, these trucks don't have a timing chain. All gear driven equipment.

Thanks Rubber Duck,
I might be in the wrong forum the truck is a 2002 F 550
I spoke with the shop for quite a while last night..Tried some logic
(If the truck came in with the leak and the o rings were split. You changed the o rings
and 1 day later leaked in same place and same amount of oil....Could it be possible that your tech nicked the o rings on reinstall) and the silence was deaf fining..
So today they will remove. reseal and replace the seals
Stay tuned kids this should get interesting..
