I have a '97 F250 Supercab HD. It has two tanks and about three weeks ago the fuel gauge started acting wierd when it's switched to the forward tank. The readings fluctuate regardles of the amount of fuel in the tank. When switched to the rear tank the gauge functions properly. Anyone else ever have this problem? I'll take any advice I can get. I think it's probably a bad sending unit. Can anyone tell me where the sending unit is located on this truck and how difficult it is to replace?
Am I on the right track or is there something else that could cause this problem?
I don't have a problem with that in my '95 but that would happen all the time in my '87 F150 with 2 tanks.
I believe it's the sending unit. It's located in the tank mounted on top of it. You can either drop the tank (not very easy, make sure the tank is EMPTY!!!) or you can pull the bed off the truck (not all that difficult IMO).
