Hi everyone I am Granimal, I just joined your group last week and I must say I love it here. I have a 95 F250 with a built transmission chipped up, big exhaust and set up for propane. I love this truck and I work it hard, hauling hay, farm equipment, and occasionally my pulling tractors. I bought this truck from a buddy that bought it new, I know that he had this problem when he owned it and I have always had this problem since I have owned it. This truck does not turn over very fast at start up. The starter was changed with a new oem, I put new high cranking batteries in it. When it is cold, with it plugged in I cycle the plugs 5 or 6 times to get it to start, if I dont the batteries go down. What it seems like to me is it is only trying to start on one battery. The factory cables have never been changed. What do you all think..... thanks in advance Granimal
You shouldn't have to cycle the glow plugs so often to start it. It sounds to me like their not all working. Check out the top sticky post on testing/changing them.
After that you may have to change out your battery cables, mines a 96 and they were rotted from the inside out and would not carry any amperage at all, found a set on ebay for about $100..
that starter needs about 1,600 to 2,000 amps available. if you ave a corroded cable on one battery you just lost half of your amps. also check both ground cables and where they connect to the block
