I would like to pass along my appreciation to the designers at Ford for making a simple thermostat change simple again. They've kept the thermostat on the intake manifold where it belongs, left the bolts accessible once the air cleaner was out of the way, and put the radiator drain in an easily accessible area. I have not had such a simple time of it since, well, my last Ford truck.
The last thermostat I messed with was on my Ram. The housing was on the lower radiator hose which meant I had to dump the entire system and then lay underneath it to work on it. Not only did I have to replace the thermostat, but most of the coolant as well. This time I was able to drain off a couple of gallons in a clean container, change the t-stat, and then re-use the old coolant.
