Just got back from the welder's about an hour ago. Got a few holes to drill and then start the install. Finally!!! Oh yeah, and the U-joints, but that's not a big deal.
I've managed to do things fairly cheaply. But the time thing........ I haven't actually spent a whole lot of time on it. Fitting it between other things. Oh yeah, finding the parts. That took time.
I actually found all my parts for really cheap, the money part was no issue. I dont even have 600 bucks in parts yet, and I JUST about have everything I need, minus a 5 speed tranny, if I want to go with a manual. Then there is the things like the rust proofing I dont have, a few of the larger bolts that I need, etc.
I have a 91 frame, and i have a 91 4 wheel drive. Basically I am going to take the complete suspension springs and all, and throw it onto the 2 wheel drive frame both front and rear. Along the way I plan on replacing anything that should be replaced such as bearings, bushings, seals, etc.
I have pondered a lift kit, and I may do that yet. Im also trying to find a reasonably priced 5 speed with a transfer case, so I can keep the truck a manual instead of going auto.
My big problem right now is lack of a warm place to work.
But yeah I thought i would ask to see if you ran into any actual problems when you were doing the swap. Are you putting some new parts in the front end while your doing it (tie rods, etc.?)
F150? 250? 350?? Leaf? coil?? Details man, I need details!!!!
As for the lack of a warm place to work, I hear ya. Working in my unheated garage without a door and still a dirt floor. Not much fun, but at least it's out of the wind and snow.
Does the 150 4x4 have leafs or springs in front? Not familiar with them. If the suspension is set up the same, it should be fairly straight forward. Obviously there will be the tranny swap to get the transfer case. But you already knew that.
