the 1705 is ok.it's just got generic tunes.i have one i just leave the 1st program in 'tow safe',but i mainly keep it for reading codes.i would'nt pay to much for a 1705
I use the Superchips programmer. The tow safe is a nice improvement over stock. I mainly got it for reading codes originally. With the tow safe and the opened up intake/exhaust I have no problems pulling large loads over the passes and to my job sites high in the Colorado mountains without blowing too high EGTs. Pulls 7000 lbs at 65 mph over Cerro Summit or Monarch Pass (where the road is straight enough) without over heating the turbo. I am sure there are many more custom chips out there that have better performance, but this option killed two birds with one stone for me.
The 4" exhaust does not make the truck any louder, just gives it a better tone. You can also hear the turbo a bit more with the 6637 air filter. Sounds a bit like a turbine on a helicopter winding up. The most beneficial part of the larger exhaust and removing the CAT is that the truck can breath the way it was designed to. Improves horse power, mileage and acceleration. When I removed my CAT it was over half clogged. This was years ago. I can't imagine what it would look like after 12 years.
ok ok, you guys win...im ordering my 3'' down pipe right now. I was just going to cut out the cat and weld in pipe, my muffler is already deleted. A friend of mine straight piped his truck and i cant stand how loud it is..Sounds awesome but i drive 5 hours up to go snowmobiling and i dont think i can take the noise for that amount of time. What type of exhaust do you recommend? soryr to be a pain.
A lot of people here use the Tymar Down Pipe. I personally ran 4" straight pipe behind the rear wheel. It is not loud inside the cab. If I roll down the back window or the rear slider then I can hear it.
I used an MBPR 4" exhaust kit with a 3" down pipe. Had to cut a little of the firewall to fit it in. This kit has a straight through muffler that helps with the tone and loudness. The muffler does not restrict air flow, just dampens the sound. Made the truck a little louder, not much though. Sounds much better, not necessarily louder.
well today it was 33 degrees and the ebpv valve closed and never opened again...Which plug do i disconnect to keep the valve open? I have no idea what im doing when it comes to the turbo, so i really dont want to go in blind. Any pictures of the plug?
There is a gray colored plug as I recall that comes from the actuator on the back side of the turbo along the drivers side of the valley. The actuator is attached to the turbo pedestal, but not part of the turbo. The EBPV is just past the turbo on the exhaust side. There is a lever on the bottom that connects to the actuator. Follow the wiring from that point back to the wiring harness near the back of the drivers side valve cover. It is one of those water proof connectors with a clip keeping the connection together. I think the only other connections on that part of the wiring harness are the ones that connect the glow plugs/injectors through the valve cover gasket. These are flat 4 prong connectors and are black, attached to the valve cover gasket. It is not hard to locate.
