Driver's Window Removal

I'm trying to remove the glass from the Driver's side window of my '53 F100. I have removed the regulator, and removed the screws for the tracks. When I slide the glass down the track it won't come out the access hole. I have removed it completely from the track, and I still can't get it out of the access hole.

I put this together about 10 years ago, and I don't remember having this much trouble with the glass. I need to replace the glass seat tape, and while I'm at it, I will replace the glass, since the top edge is chipped. The regulator and rollers look good.

What's the trick?

If I remember correctly, when I replaced the glass in my 53 F100 I popped the pins out of the rollers and then cranked the assembly back up out of the way so the window had enough room to angle over and out the opening.Putting it back together was even more fun. Scott

i've tried it upside down and sideways, with no luck. The regulator has been removed, so there is plenty of room to move it around, but I can't get enough of an angle to slip it out of the access hole. The tracks are in the way.

Maybe I can push the front track forward enough to get the angle that I need.

The bracket that the front division & window track bolts to is in the way. I think it will come out without that. It looks as if that bracket has been welded into place. I'm wondering if the bracket is suposed to be a seperate piece that could be removed. I don't want to take the other door panel & access door off to look.

I looked in the Mid Fifty catalog, and they don't list a seperate piece for that bracket, but the inner door skin is stamped from a flat piece of sheet steel, the bracket has to be added later.

If you turn the glass sideways it should just slip right out. Could the outside handle be in the way? I had no trouble getting mine out when I installed my electric regulators.

I got it out. I turned it sideways, that helped. The glass is 18 3/4 tall, and 18 5/8 wide. The extra 1/8 helped. The other thing that I did was to bend the division bar mounting bracket at a 45 degree angle. The glass had some of the rubber stuck on the bottom, that was in the way also, but I got it past the bracket. I should have had the top of the glass on the division side, it would have been easier yet.

I think that the division bar mounting bracket that I have on that door, might have been a replacement for a smaller factory bracket. When it is at 90 degrees to the door, the glass will not go past it. I'll straighten it after I replace the glass.

Can anyone post a picture of a factory division bar mounting bracket?
