Disc brake conversion???

"I have a dream," of putting rear discs on my '75 F-250, with the big Dana rear.

I know it's a dream, but does anyone have any ideas, or better yet, know where to buy a pre-fab kit for about $300? lol. Wouldn't that be sweet?

Cheers!!

I've been checking around and decided to go with the 77 el dorado calipers with the e. brake cable. I can pull them myself from the boneyard for $34, put a rebuild kit in them for $13, as opposed to paying $62.99 each for rebuilts. I like that.

I'm surprised, but it does look like I'll be able to do it for about $200, and it would be a fairly simple one day project!!

No more having my plungers shake out of my wheel cylinders when flying down the washboard dirt roads of Baja, and having to clamp vise grips on the line to make it north!!

glad to help restorer! still looking for that link for the ebay kit but if you can find the brackets the rest can be bought local the only issue i can remember was bleeding the brakes i had to remove caliper from the rotor, put a pcs of wood between the pads tilt the caliper back in order to get the bleeder screw on top to remove any air pocket as the screw is toward the bottom and was stunned as to why the brakes felt spongy [finaly figured it out duh!] i was also able to fab a simple bracket for the stock ebrake cables
as i said they are one of the best upgrades for safty that i ever did as i dont know about any one else but i have always had trouble with ford "self ajusters " not ajusting i always had to set my rear brakes manualy for the last 30 years that i have had these trucks and that included new trucks! regurds joe

1977F250--I'd be happy to use the Chevy calipers, but I wanted to keep an e. brake.

miottimouse--

I got to say that I looked through your gallery, and that has to be the sweetest classic p-u I've seen!! Whow, every thing is covered, interior, engine, paint, gear vendor, disc brakes.... I am very impressed.

Mine certainly has a ways to go. I am shopping for a gear vendor now. I recently put in a hp inline six. With the GV I hope to get close to 20 mpg on the freeway.

I'll remember that about the bleeder screw needing to be up. Thanks.

**i was also able to fab a simple bracket for the stock ebrake cables** I don't suppose you could post a photo of that bracket, could you? It would certainly help.

Don't sweat it, Joe. I think it's clear in your photos what I need to do. I just needed to get my head around it first. Stay warm.

One thing comes to mind that you could clear up without having to get under your truck: How does one separate the hub from the drum? I checked my manuals, but couldn't find out. And I can't remember.

lay the hub/brake drum flat, with the studs up,thread the wheel nuts onto the studs [flush with the top of the stud to avoid damaging threads] and knock them out with a hammer [they will be a friction fit so hit hard] and reinstall hitting the studs from behind now would be a good time to replace any that are worn or damaged if you p/m me with your email i have a few more pics and its easeir for me to send through email than this forum i plan to do my f350 s/c also when the drums are wore out and a brake job is needed regurds joe

Joe, I'm going to go with what worked for you. Where do you recommend I buy the brackets? Is there anything else, fittings, lines, I should get from one of the specialty shops that I can't get from Napa? or some of the other parts houses?

Cheers, Kevin.
