please forgive me, but i have no idea what i am looking for or talking about when it comes to cams. But i was wondering what cam would be good for my truck? it is completely stock as of now. and i wanted some more pep out of my truck. Also was thinking of a tb spacer along with a cold air intake. thanks for your thoughts.
A few cams are available for the EFI 300 that are computer compatible but not necessarily emissions compatible. Check with Comp, Isky, and whatever other cam manufacturers for the details. Most cam manufactures have web sites with customer service departments found easily enough with a Google search.
yes i have found them, but what i want to know is what cam to get, i know nothing about the lift / duration or anything like that, so i dont want to buy something that would be bad for the truck.
it really depends on what kind of power you are looking for, and if you would like to keep your fuel economy. for example:
i would love to get a comp cams 268H, it produces good mid-range power and has a lopey idle. problem is, i am stationed in germany for the next three years and gas mileage is an issue.
on the other hand, comp cams 252H, has good torque and keeps decent gas mileage, plus excellent throttle response.
it just depends on what you want and what you are willing to compromise
Good Morning,
I am sorta in the same bag (ignorant on cam esoterics, but been researchin) also have very different needs. I want a mix of very low rev tq (pullin in the woods) and economy- on the street. May be my best bet is a overdrive transmission and a steep geared transfer?
I can't speak too much on the cams in a 300 but I have used the 252 in other engines with good results. Power and fuel economy improved and the engine vacuum was still above 18" at idle. To take full advantage of the cam change you should have the head ported and install a free flowing exhaust. Don't bother with a TB spacer or a custom CAI.
regards
rikard
i second that on the TB spacer, they dont do jack S***. but i the K&N CAI on mine, that paired with my magnaflow hi-flow cat , new 2 1/2" pipes and universal muffler, i am seeing a constant 18 MPG on the interstate
I would think for a truck you want as much low end power as possible to get the truck moving.
Right?
If that's for me, YES. (C last post). Low engine revolutions, NOT peddle to the metal, skimming across the top, but sittin there n pullin (weighted bed or draggin a log etc).
