i have an 02 F150 with about 150k miles on it. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed there was a ringing coming from the steering column. Shortly after my truck started hesitating all the time when I accelerate. About 2 days ago, when i turned the truck off, I heard this clicking noise coming from the steering column. My truck has been a great truck, never really had any problems with it. The only other thing is when I turn it off the fan from the AC or heater will keep blowing if it is left in the on position. anybody have any ideas on whats going on or how i can fix these issues?
The clicking in the steering column could very well be a short in your ignition switch, and could explain the fan staying on. When you click it off it may very well be shorted to Acc. and some of your electrical is still energized. This would be my first place to go... I believe it's a cheap part, if you can confirm the short... I'd defer to someone a bit more familiar with the circuit to know whether this circuit could be responsible for the stumbling as well...
thank you! I will def look into that. Some of the lights on my dash quit working now too. Like my e brake light. And my theft light blinks when the truck hesitates. i'm hoping it will be something relatively easy and inexpensive to fix.
Hey man quick question so does your truck stumble the whole time your driving it or just when your take off. Here's another question what do the guages do when it acts up? The steering column has lots of functions bolted on to it and it also has a couple of relays. All of them are powered by the computer I don't want to scare you but its somthing to think about.
yeah my truck stumbles all the time not just when i change gears. even i am doing a steady 40 mph. my gauges are fine. i don't have a tach though. although my theft light blinks on for he split second the engine hesitates. it acts like it is getting gas and then something blocks it for a split second. does that make sense?
well we hooked it up to a scanner and got the codes indicating that both tanks are too lean and there is a misfire in cylinder #3. I am gonna get some new spark plugs and new intake gaskets, but i still gotta figure out the electrical problems.
Hey man what exactly do the truck do as for as the electrical problem? I'm not understanding. before you go get gaskets get some carb cleaner and spray it around the Intake if the engine rev's up then you need gaskets if not spray it on anything that has vaccum if you think that you have a vac leak. The leans fuel mix can also come from a
O2 sensor that bad or not reading correctly. Also if your going to get plugs getsome wires to this way your sure everthing is on the up and up.
I am with Fordman, check for vacuum leaks with the carb cleaner. Check you vacuum connections(elbows) for leaks. Also clean your MAF sensor before you get the intake gaskets. I cleaned my MAF and my lean codes(P0171, P0174) havent came back.
ok my truck is dead, jumped it off a iraggi alternator on my buddies car (300A), but cant seem to get it to jump off my fathers diesel, battery is draining cause a relay clicks on and off without the key in the ignition.. also the odometer never shuts off or it displays --------, without the keys in the ignition.. fuel pump has a hum when i turn the key.. not sure on the fuel pressure at the moment. gonna have someone check it.. also i keep getting a fuel cap light that shows when the key isnt in it.. something electrical.. kinda looking for a color wiring diagram for a 4.2l v6 2002 f150 truck so my brother and his buddies can start testing everything.. can anyone give a good link to a free diagram or send one to my email mda31681@gmail.com
itll crank over.. just wont stay running.. and eventually the battery dies cause something isnt turning off properly after i pull the key outta the ignition..
