Why would a muffler shop want you to cut stuff apart before you bring it there? doesn't that negate the purpose of taking it to the muffler shop?
I think what he means is, the shop cant legally remove the cat, unless they are replacing it with a new one. But if you show up with no exhaust at all, they will install a system without a cat.
I went down the same road with a 79 Trans Am that had a factory cat, the shop would only do duals if they added cats. (since there was one present) I removed the exhaust at home, installed headers, drove back to the shop, and they installed a system without cats.
well it is done. it sounds pretty good, got some chug to it! seems to have a little more throttle response. the cat was so stopped up, i could not even see a spot light through it. big difference in the amount of exhaust coming out of there now, i could hardly feel anything before, now it flow great. thanks again for the advice guys!

Glad you like it, I think it was a great idea if your cat was that plugged.
I keep the passenger window down all the time now, I love to hear that turbo whistle.
