I just had my ficm replaced when I droped it off I was in the 11mpg somthings had been for a couple of weeks. Today I warmed the trk up prior to leaving work (22deg w 20mph wind lovely). I get in it read 9.8mpg, I reset it thinkin it was strange. I look down after prob a mile and a half 14 somthing, big smile. Over the next 2 miles uniterupted 45mph downhill I glance down 18mpg hudge smile, 26.6mpg.......???? Ive never seen 18 let alone a number starting with 2. Now Im staring at it and its literially moving up and down with the pedal. It has never done this before aswell when stopped or at idle it drops a tenth every 20seconds. OK background overwith LOL Is this the way its supposed to work and the ficm fixed it?
Yep it is a overall average (and not a very reliable one at that). The more miles you put on without resetting the less it will change. Look in the tech folder for a great lie-o-meter explanation.
Some must be more accurate than others. The last 4 tanks my meter compared to hand calculation has only been off .1 to .2. Pretty close if you ask me or maybe I am just lucky.
I went on a long trip recently and my meter read 16.8, hand calc.= 14.8 ,2nd leg of trip meter read 17.7,hand calc.=18.5 ,3rd leg of trip meter read 17.2, hand calc.=16.5 overall avg. of 16.6 mpg running varying terrain and elevation at 70 mph + - truck empty.I reset meter every fillup ,not terrific but reasonable for lifted f350 35" tires 03 psd.
Mine says 76.9 mpg till I step on the gas then it goes to 3.2 or 13. I always get at least 340 miles out of the tank. Pee pee on that digitial stuff. Sensors and digitial read outs are full of it. Jmo
