Actually the Lightnings were SD not mass air. But you're right it has the basis for a LOT more HP than a stock 5.8 truck motor so every little performance part added pays bigger dividens. And yes you can build one to match or beat it and you don't even need a 5.8 truck to do it, Lew52's GT40 headed 302 machine regularly beats stock Lightnings in the 1/4 mile, but it's got more cam, more gears, and a better exhaust system.
well heres the deal. i know my budget isnt for an original lightning. i love the looks of it. so if there wasnt that big of a difference, i would take a standard f150 and make it look like one. id end up building up the 351 in it anyway so i guess that dosent matter. the interior and exterior not a problem. whats the deal with the frame being thicker? why would they do that?
I love the 1st Gen Lightnings too. One day I will have one. If you want to create a replica of one, that isn't too hard to do. My friend has a clone.
I found it odd that SVT didn't make them mass air. I would have thought that they would have. There is a Ford Racing or Ford Motorsports mass air conversion kit that many 1st Gen Lightnings have been upgraded with.
Yeah, they don't list any (front) for a 4wd late model bronco. I'm wondering if/why the Hellwig p/n 7597 1¹⁄8” front bar listed for the "92-96 F150 Pickup with factory curved crossmember" wouldn't work? Don't the 4x4 Broncos and f150s of that year range (92-96) have the same front suspension/factory sway bar setup?
The Hellwig doens't mount the same as the factory sway bar does. It mounts the same in the middle but has its own brackets for the end links.
It mounts to the angled skid plate / steering linkage gaurd and then to the I beams. I don't see why it won't work on a Bronco. It probably would need differnt end link brackets.
