I had to replace one of my injector lines the other day. Well i accidently unseated a return cap. Well in the process i had to reseat all of the driver side caps. Now i have air intrusion. If i just replace the return lines and the orings will the caps be ok?
The timing is advanced from the air in the pump.
reason number twenty one why i have the electric pump. with lines cracked i can just turn the key and they will all bleed out in a few seconds. The ford techs loved it because they thought it would be a pain and they took labor time off the top of the payment. If the caps are not cracked or damaged they should be fine. If they are damaged then they will need replacing. The air in the system should kick itself out but sounds like it needs bled bigtime. How do you know you have air intrusion vs air left over from replacing the line?
when i changed injectors i didnt really have much air trouble, but changing injection pump thats another story, it takes forever to bleed one, even when you fill it with diesel before you put it in, wish i had an electric pump
The pumps knocking. so i think the air is getting in the return lines, going to the filter head and into the pump. The injectors only have 10000 on them the pump has maybe 9000
If it is your return lines even leaking bad after it runs a minute or two it will run normal.
If air is getting in between the transfer pump and the tank it will continue to run ragged.
If the IP builds to much pressure before the head has reached the injection line opening there is more than one story of the IP shaft schearing off.
Also if the injector you just installed has a large difference in pop pressure from the rest of the injectors, that could be your noise.
Just had another thought, was the IP turned up internally or externally?
With a 94 7.3 turbo, the pump should be either a DB2 5069 or DB2 5070, so it should have 2 fuel screws.
Been reading a lot here about changing pump settings either with the screws or rotating [timing?]. Waiting on delivery of the new pump and injectors and am wondering if I should consider changing the factory settings. I know these machines are detuned from the factory so maybe...?
Remember the IDI 7.3 turbo engine only showed a 5 HP increase over the NA engine in Ford literature.
ATS literature states up to a 50% increase.
So Fords rating was 190 HP.
ATS states up to 277.5 HP.
Yes the small turbo outlet and smashed down pipe with the small exhaust did kill a lot of the potential.
But if you were standing in the show room with an IDI turbo making 240 HP and a 94 Stoke sitting there with a much higher cost showing 215 HP, which one would you buy?
You can bet the Stroke was in testing in 93 when Ford released the 7.3 IDI turbo.
And you can bet marketing had more than a little to do with pump settings and HP ratings for the IDI turbo.
The change was inevitable due to EPA requirements so they had to choose an exit strategy for the IDI engine.
I didnt change an injector just the line. And the pump was maxed when i got it. I checked it before installed it. I went into the side cover. i also didnt know there were two screws.
