AAARG!!! Door handle!

I've broken SOOOOO many of these stupid door handles! Drivers door inside handle. I'm sure others have had this problem. What did you do to fix it???? I've tried shimming and extra support around the base, but thought I'd see what other guys have tried. Thanks

Mine kept breaking then i found out why the cable was cutting into the cable housing making it very hard for the cable to slide inside it so i replaced the handle assembly and havent broken one since..

I broke one a ways back. I replaced it with a plastic one, but lubed the cables, etc inside the door with a little bit of silicone spray.
All has been well since. I think it has been about 4 years.
I wouldn't mind having metals ones, but I found a plastic replacement at the first stop I made (Autozone, I think) so I just bought it and put it in.
The nearest Napa is out of the way of my normal travels, but if I knew for sure they had metal handles, I'd make the trip.

I went to the wreckers and got the last 2 in the whole yard. All the passenger side handles were there. Just not the driver's side ones. I noticed that the part of the door that the bracket attaches to is cracked and has a lot of play. That would make sense as it always felt like I had to pull it a lot farther than I should have to. I guess I'll just have to pull it all apart and fab something to brace it with before I bother getting a new handle. Funny stuff Copedawg (groan)........

Ive broken 4 of them... and drew one up in Solidworks and am thinking of seeing what a machine shop would charge to make maybe 10 or so and either sell them or just make me two...

Ill check with napa for the metal ones first.

Let me know the part number if you find it. I won't be able to get to my local napa until next Wednesday.

I broke lots of them when I first had the truck. Since then I have welded the cracked door up and lubed the cables. It has been a few years now and I am noticing it is getting a bit close to breaking again so I will go in and see what went this time. Most likely just need to put in a better support and relube the cables. It works to roll down the window and open the door!!
