By now I'm very sure you are all fully aware of the tragic shooting in Lakewood, Washington of 4 of their finest. Our state (Washington) has of course lowered all flags to half mast in memory of those officers. Some of us with members of our families in law enforcement would like to ask anyone and everyone across this country to do the same thing ..... lower the flag in honor of those officers. The news types don't spend much time on the real folk these officers were, so how about we do our own honoring by asking everyone we know to lower the flag to half mast. How about sending this request to all you know via email, and have them do likewise. I bet by a couple of days, this whole country can have their flags lowered. It might just be a great statement of support for our men and women in law enforcement.
The plan in our state is that flags will be at 1/2 mast until next Wednesday .... December 9. 20,000 officers are expected to be in attendance on Tuesday, December 8, for the memorial service in the Tacoma Dome. Maybe 20, 000, 000 flags can be at 1/2 mast that day at least.
Thanks for your help,
RG in Spokane
(Our son in law is a Washington State Trooper ... and will be in Tacoma on the 8th. )
That was a very low, cold blooded killing. Senseless. I'm just glad they got the guy. He won't be doing that ever again. I've got several friends in law enforcement, and these things do hit a little close to home.
Interestingly the guy who killed the Officers had been released on $15K bail by a Washington St. Judge after being charged with child rape. Plus, he had had his felony convictions in Arkansas, where he was serving long term, commuted, then parroled out. It's really time for that kind of stuff to stop. With this guy it has as he was killed by another Officer at a routine stop today.
I will lower my flag to half staff in Honor of these Officers and say a prayer for their families on Wednesday 12/9!
My thoughts and prayers are with the families. Most folks will never know the horror of such a loss, but for those of us who have been through it, it never gets easy. Having laid more Brothers to rest in the line of duty than I can stand, it makes my wife and I forever grateful that I was able to reach retirement and step out of the line of fire.
With my oldest son still 'on the job' and my son-in-law about to begin his career 'on the job' in two weeks, we will never really be free of the worry.
