gunk engine flush
Going to do an oil change on my 170,000 mile 1988 F150 i am not sure if the previous owner did them regularly or not, but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put some sort of cleaner threw with the oil change or not? Ive heard some good and some bad things about Gunk Engine Flush. what do you all think?

x2 on the SeaFoam
An alternative is to run a quart of ATF in the engine (Substitute one quart of ATF for one quart of engine oil.) for a few days. ATF is an excellent high grade oil with good cleaning abilities... Just don't do any heavy hauling while your using it.
Does the engine need flushing or do you simply want to do it?

Im thinking of doing it to make up for possible neglect from the previous owner of my truck. There is no record of when the last oil change was done. so I am planning on changing all fluids in the next little bit and just want to do what is best for my engine so that I can get many problem free years out of it.

For what it's worth, I use it. Just did Old Rusty when I got him & the stuff that came out was black & nasty looking. Have heard about that tranny fluid trick before. Have also read about people using diesel for a flush. Never tried the Sea Foam®. Actually before joining , I never heard of putting it in the oil. Always thought it was like Gumout®, a fuel system cleaner. If I remember right, they say drive about 100 miles with it in. Then change it right away.
