I'm wondering if anyone knows if such an animal exists? I've searched around and also posted in another area of this site, but there seems to be nothing available, especially when you go back to a '93 pre power stroke turbo.
OK, that would answer my quest then. I was thinking the pcm was a computer of some sort, but apparently not as far as the engine goes. Back to the drawing board..
Fuelhog, What sort of performance upgrade are you after? These engines are all about old school (star, dave, no offense ok?) performance mods.
Bigger exhaust, add more air (turbocharger), add more fuel (turn up fuel screw), then stick your boot in it. Your transmission may also need some tuning however to handle the added torque.

Hehe - I like the skinny computer on the far right floor board idea. Anyway, I see where your leaning. I bought this truck to eventually haul a 5th wheel or 30' travel trailer around (neither of which I've found yet). For now I'm just puttin around with it and figured if there were any ideas to improve the mileage I'd be happy with that, I don't need it burning black and spinnin tires just yet. I'm also a bit leery of the auto tranny, would like to not stress it out too much and suspect that if I start heavy hauling it will need a rebuild.
Fuel hog if you are planning on using it to pull a travel trailer I would learn all I could about beefing up that auto, properly done they can be a pretty tough setup, stock tehy are lacking.
By the way I sure like that little town of Smithers and that part of the country.
I have parked there to do my laundry and take a day walking around the town several times.
Oh yeah, Smithers and area is pretty country - it's always easy to think you should be somewhere warmer or whatever but aside from being a long drive to any sizeable place its good here and nice mountains. As to the tranny on my vehicle, that is a concern, I have a decent mechanic here whose brain I will have to pick when we start hauling stuff like large trailers.
David 85 on this forum keeps up with the bullet proof upgrades for those trannys and is always willing to share his experiances.
I lived for years where it is a 100 mile one way trip to an actual grocery store and that never bothered me as I like small town or no town atmosphere just fine. I just think Smithers has a friendly attitude and the scenery there is great.
I was in a sporting goods store there with some friends and they had a bear rug,one of my friends wives mentioned to the owner that she hoped it died naturally and he came back with sure did it got in dads garden and just naturally died. I loved it and will never forget that comment.
Last weekend we hauled a big trailer loaded with junk behind our 86 f-250 with the 4-speed manual.
It was a bumper pull, but it was heavy. The truck was less than an inch away from the axle bumpers. I have driven six nines in the past but this one seems to have a bit more power........
On the way back, loaded, we had about 200 miles to go straight south. The wind was blowing 30-40 straight north.
Long story short, with the pedal tight to the floor al the way home, top speed was anywhere between 55 and barely 65 depending on trees etc.
There was just a solid plume of black smoke out the exhaust for 200 miles, haha when cars passed in the dark it looked like we were on fire. haha
Still got 8 mpg though all the way home!
Safe to say, Im pretty sure the p.o. turned up the fuel!
