I don't know what I am doing wrong. I removed the two bolts holding it down, it will swivel both directions. I used some bale wire and all I did was break it and bend one of the EGR ears up. Does the EGR need to be in a certain spot to pull out. I must be doing something wrong since so many have pulled theirs. I have 116,000 miles and it has never been cleaned, it was sticking so I waited till it was un-stuck and un-plugged it, but I got tired of the CEL on, so I bought a repair kit from Ford (gasket and O rings) but if I can't get it off, I can and will take the kit back.
Thanks for the help.
Quite simply, it's a bitch. Break out a case of beer, get some beer muscles going, and twist that **** back and forth while pulling up. If it hasn't been out before, or hasn't been out in 10k+ miles, it's gonna suck. My suggestion, get a hammer, a flat blade screw driver, and pin the screwdriver in the rabbit ear screw hole and use that to turn it to get it moving. Once it's moving, pull up while turning, you will be hard pressed to pull strait up. Try to turn it for your primary objective, then apply slightly upward pressure while turning. This will yield the best results. It'll take a bit, but it can be done. First time I did it, it took me about 45min of screwing with. Now, it's much easier because 1. it's been done recently and 2. i know how to do it.
Get 2+ cans of brake or carb cleaner, a tooth brush, and a small flat head screw driver, and once it's out, blast the hell out of it. I'm uguessing you have P0400 EGR flow malfunction? If so, clean the hell out of it, then pop it back in. 20-30 miles and the light should go out.
Carb cleaner. Anyway get you a small FLAT pry bar, like 7-9 inchs long, that has a 90 degree angle on one end. You can get that down there and get the corner of it under the egr and it will come out very easy. Just don't pry around real hard. That is the simplest way I have found. Eric
I used a sprinkler screw driver short and thin blade was a pain just kept workin it a little at a time and it came out. Slow and steady. It will come out, lol IF I CAN DO IT..................
I have never taken mine out, but I watched a Ford Tech pull mine out before while I was under warranty. He also used a pry bar with a 45 degree bend at the flat tip end to get that leverage. It came out fairly easy but I'm sure that is because he had done so many before and just had the knack.
It might be easier for others, I had 185k on the clock when I did mine, and chances are it was the first time it was done. The o-rings looked very original, nothing had shown up on the oasis regarding it, and it was caked with carbon in a HUGE way.
ok mine when i took it out granted it was only 40k i unbolted the valve twisted i believe clockwise and got a open ended wrench under one of the flanges and pried up slowly and rocked it back and forth and came out nice. really is a pain we all know
This picture from the tech folder was perfect. I tried for an hour to remove mine by hand then remembered a write up in the folder. It took longer to connect everything than it did to pull out. I guess it was just the perfect up angle and plenty of leverage.
Un bolt it and twist the valve a lil. Grab a long pry bar and pry against the alternator pulley and under the tab. Rock and wiggle a lil and it will come out. Yeah youll bend the tab a lil no biggy it straightens I do it all day work thats the best way for me
