Hi. We have a diesel 2003 F-250. We need to change to a 5th wheel with a floorplan that has two bedrooms. The one I like is 14,389 pounds GVWR and 10,366 dry. It would be more weight than we tow now.
If I change our 3:73 rear end to 4:10 will we have the ability to tow this weight safely? We have air assists.
I think once you add you gear and option you'll be overweight. If you really like the camper and want to keep your truck you may want to go get your truck weighed. When I upgraded campers my 04 was over the recommend pulling weight (12,400lbs) and the combined weight (20k). Although we just bearly meet our axle weights empty, with the family and a full load we choose to step up to a newer dually for safety. My camper is 12k dry and 14.5k loaded. I would talk to the dealer and hook up to the new camper up and get it to a scale. If you meet your axle weights your at a good starting point.
You shouldn't have a problem pulling the camper with 3.73's it's all about stopping, braking, and the DOT if you every get stopped.
You may also want to look at the "Lite" models. I would of been find with a "lite" model but we couldn't find a floor plan we liked.
Also if you jump up to an 05 or newer Ford you get about 2500lbs more towing & pulling capacity.
