Towing - Rear Axle Change
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum or not. If this post is in error, my apologies!
I have a 2002 F-150 Supercrew with the 3.55 LS rear axle (9.75") which I use to pull a travel trailer. While my truck is still within the allowable weight ratings, 6200 lbs (truck is rated to 8000 lbs).
I'd like a little more power and am contemplating a ratio change. Not only would this give me a little more power, I suspect it might increase my gas mileage.
My options are 3.73 or 4.10. 3.73 isn't much of a change leaving me with 4.10. It was suggested to me that I may not be able to install 4.10's simply because the computer may or may not allow that ratio to be programmed.
Anyone have any experience with this - is 4.10 an option on this year truck? Also, has anyone experienced an improvement in mileage while towing after changing to a numerically higher ratio?
Thanks
