engine swap issue

hello. i have a 1973 f100 that originally came with a 360. i recently purchased a "junk" 73 f100 that had a 1977 400m. the difference in the two trucks is that my 73/360 is a 2wd long bed and the other 73/400 is a short bed. i refreshed the 400 and installed the engine and matching c6 last night. i seem to be experincing alignment issuses... the engine/trans and xmember seem to be about 2-1/2 -3" too far forward. i have checked the engine mounts (stamped L & R) and they are on the correct side of the engine (L being driver side & R being passenger side). whats the deal???

What is the fan clearance to the radiator? It sould be similar to the old 360 FE. Why do you think it is too far forward? Did you have issues with the tranny crossmember? I sorta remember something like that when I did mine.

engine swap issue

thanks for your reply. i believe that i have solved the issue (a strange one). i inverted the engine mounts by putting L on passenger side and R on driver side and that moved the engine, trans, & xmember back to almost the same position. the xmember is now bolted in the front set of holes whereas before it was in the rear set. i am hoping that this is not going to be an issue with fan, shroud, & radiator clearance... still in progress.

It appears you learned the hard way that FE frame perches and 302/351/400 perches are different from each other, lol.

You know I always assumed those were the same. My swap was 302 to 400, so I didn't run into that. So there are 4 different frame perches in these trucks? 300, 302/400, FE, and Big Block??? So the same would be true for 4x4's as well? I had to rob a pair from a big Bronc to put the windsor in my 79. Don't ask how long it took finding the right flywheel. BTW worst thing I did was sell that 300 I6

From what I've gathered, the perch break down is:
240/300 and FE- They get moved to the forward set of holes for the inlines
Small block
351m/400
460
There is also a different one on the left hand side for power steering and manual steering, although I've only seen the power ones even in manual trucks.
2wd perches swap freely between 68 (maybe as early as 65) and 79 trucks.
