First off i want to say aorry for the wait! second at the end were i said i think valves floated, i now think the headgasket may be about to go, cause it ran weird for a min then went back to normal
damn 4400-4500 rpm, that is awesome!!! Sucks about the smoke at the end but now you know where to stay away from......bottoming out the RPM Gauge!! hahaha

I want to know what brand head gaskets you use.
I need some of them self healing ones.
this aint the only time its done something weird that made me think head gaskets, man why does alot of people be @$$ holes to me i mena i aint never done nothing, i apprieciate all of yall who support me! fo the rest off yall whatever im trying to break grounds here and get idi's into the hot rod diesel world
Thats creepy to watch. I'd be curious to see it on a dyno to find out how much power you are making past the usual point. Now go fix you speedometer. lol

Just jerking your chain. I'm really inclined to think the weird acting and smoke either had to come either from the pump or from the hydraulic lifters, it would be abnormal for the headgasket to let go and return to normal when the rpm;s turned to normal.
With the compression these motors run at that rpm it has to strain everything but once a headgasket gives I have never seen one return to normal it still has the compression.
dave motor cost about 5000 and he did alll the labor him self i think u should just drive it like it was disened for for know till u get a really big bag cash lol iam not try to be mean but can u aford to blow it sky hight

ok, well i dont know what it was from cause it started making a funny rattle at first i thought it was about to blow, but it didnt i really have no clue what it was, but im going to put 7.3 rocker arms in sometime and i need to look into better valve springs so i could get a set of heads redone put the better springs in new gaskets and head studs
sounds nice at those high revs to me. The rattle maybe not so much but if you can afford to pop the engine then I wonder how far it will go? It would be interesting to see if you could build one of these strong enough to handle that all the time.
Nice man, yea breaking new ground means pushing the envelope of the conventional. Especially if you have the time, money and skills to do the work and repairs. I've always heard these things were able to take a lot more than the factory settings. You proved that, and yea I favorited the you tube. Also, love your confidence not having a wrecker following ......
***** 5 stars it was fun to watch and that sounded good! wish your speedo was workin so I could see mph , I think my fave part was you droppin her back into 3rd goin up the mountain . Mine just kinda chugs when I put her in third pullin a big hill lol
Balancing goes a long way with high rpm's. But making a hot rod out of one of our idi's is going to be limited by fuel and the amount of air she can stand.
I was going up lookout mountain down by marble falls tx one night and a chevy pu started messing with meso I mashed the go pedal. Now my pu governed out at something like 76 mph so I wasn't worried about the curve on top when I barely stayed on the road I looked and my speedo was pegged and I slowed down quite a bit before my speedo started down, I had no tach in this pu so I have no Idea what I was turning.
I then stopped at the bottom of the mountain and took off just to see and the govener was not working it would just keep winding up. The next morning same thing but that evening it worked normal again, not sure what happened but about a month later the ip took a dump.
So I do know they will hold together way past the factory limits as mine never made any funny noises I just do not know about sustained high rpm's, slow turning diesels last forever I think higher rpms shorten the life span. Look at some of the old cat equipment or even some of the old boat motors some would only turn like 600 rpm but are still running 40 years later.
