Headlight and Wiper knobs

Headlight and Wiper *****
When I pull my headlight **** it just comes off. The wiper **** is cockeyed and also easily pulls off. I've tried the junkyard...even brought a **** home that did the same thing.
Is there a keeper or clip missing or is the shaft or **** stripped? What's the secret to solid *****?

The wiper **** has a metal retaining clip that holds it tight on the shaft, the headlight **** is attached to the shaft as one piece and both **** and shaft are released by depressing a button on the rear top of the headlight switch.
