syn oil

I have posted that I was going to change my oil in my 7.3 2003 to syn and I have done so.I put in Rotella syn 5/40 and have drove it about 200 miles. There is no difference in the sound of the engine and oil pressure is the same.I am hoping that the oil will circulate faster in this cold Wisconsin weather and later we will pull our 5th wheel to Florida and that I will have no problems with this change.

You will do fine --- notice it the first night when weather hits -30 or so... your dino will hardly crank over.

Going to make this swap over in 500 miles which should be my next weekend. I just have one concern. I have a very small oil leak, like 5 drops on my driveway over a month and havent had time to find it yet. I just wonder how much more it will leak with synthetic.

My truck starts and runs much better plus I'm seeing a small increase in mileage with the 5W-40 Syn Rotella.
It's a no brainer for me.

This summer we moved to the 5W-40 Rotella after having used 10W-30 WM Syn in the 1992 454 based MH. Did some hard climbs getting and in Kingdom Come State Park near Hazard, KY at WOT in first gear. Then we took it into the Ozarks but the pulls were not as long. We actually took the old roads from Hazard over the mountain to Cumberland. It was a test run for the Rockies.

After about 3500 miles it is no lower with the Rotella Syn but it is spme what darker but that is expected running diesel speced oil in a gas big block engine. I was glad it was in there for those two trips. MPG was up by about 1 MPH but not sure it was due to the oil or just running it much harder than normal.

It only cost us about $16 more being a gasser. I may use it in the F700 at the second change. The first change will come after about 1000 miles I expect running 16 oz of Sea Foam in the oil the last 50 miles just trying to clean out the new to us engine.

Up north the synthetic oil gets moving faster in cold weather and does a better job of lubricating the engine. Things to consider is with the dino oil you are probably changing oil and filter every 5k miles, with the synthetic oils every 10k or so you change the filter and pull a sample for lab analysis. You only change the oil when the lab says it is time. I know of several people at this time with the polishing bypass filter setup that are over 500,000 miles on the original oil. My oil filter cost same for synthetic as for dino, filter change requires 1 quart of replacement synthetic and $10.00 for an oil analysis every 10k versus a complete oil change every 5k. in this area Pennoil & quakerstate quick changes are getting $70.00 for a diesel dino change so it don't take the Synthetic very long to pay for itself.

Not only will you notice easier starting in winter, but the heat of summer driving does not break down the viscosity, so better lubrication year round!!!

I have 150k on mine, only use Rotella 5-40 synthetic, and get 22mpg!!

We use it in our big rigs too,,, Got 1,130,356 miles on the last 3406 CAT engine!!
