A way you can tell if its a 42 is if on the side of the hood, next to the cab the either there is a blue oval with ford on it, then its a 1942. If it is just stamped with in the Ford lettering, its a 43 or later. But, of course thats if the hood hasn't been swapped. And, the different style of engines. I don't remember what ones came in what year but, they changed it up in like 46-47. That and checking the numbers on the frame just rearward of the steering box are the only ways I know how you can tell.
