Went shopping with the family today. Drove about 20 miles and stopped to eat. Stopped at a red light after eating and the truck started missing. The RPM's didn't go up or down. They stayed where they usually run at idle. It felt like the engine was rocking from side to side. The engine never did die though. I pulled out at the red light and drove home with no issues. It ran like new after I got pulled out. Any ideas as to where to start looking for the problem? Mods are in my signature.
It's probably just starting to get loose is all, but I'll be the 50¢ too!!! I don't have a grinder handy so I'm going to the Ford dealership tomorrow to get a set of the clips. I need to do the passenger side GPs & figure while I'm in there, I'll re-torque the injectors, rockers & do the clips. Man I wish I had a garage to work in....
i hear'ya on the garage issue. i enjoy working on my truck, diagnosing, problem solving and repairing but i have no garage either, an all my working is done in the driveway. it can really suck when the weathers not good, or just cold "never look forward to it".
what i'll do is obviously dress warm and try to time my work when i have the most use of the sun. good luck!
I suggest you check your fuel filter first. At that time, I would have someone turn on the key while you look into your filter bowl. See if the fuel dribbles in or shoots in. It should fill the bowl quite quickly, so ensure someone is prepared to turn the key back off right away.
If its not filling very quickly, then I would say that its either a plugged screen in your tank, or the fuel pump is failing...
(This one got me for ages, I only problems when I was towing heavy.)
Does anyone have pictures of how much to grind off and pictures of it installed? Where is the cheapest place to buy motercraft glow plugs? If i've got to pull the valve covers, I'm putting plugs in while i'm in there.

I thought about that but why would it smooth out and start running right again?
Did your SEC light come on when it was misssing? If so, it is probably the loose UVCH.. for sure.. You can check your fault codes.. a p1316 is usually a loose connector..
Just grind enough of the quarter so it does not stick out beyond the plug.. grind about a 1/3 should do it..
I actually had a combination of both. The screens in the tank were plugged, so I cleaned them and was able to see the fuil squirt into the bowl after that. 2 weeks later it was acting up again, so I checked the flow into the bowl and it was just dribbling again. I changed the pump and problem was solved for good.
Man the way you started the thread I thought someone TOOK your truck. Glad to hear you made it home. The above people have given you a great place to start.
