I recently purchased a used 2001 Expedition. In order to operate the keypad on the door you need the factory default number. The manual says that the number can be found on the computer. Can someone tell me where to find the computer?
I just bought a 2000 EB 4x4. I read the same thing, don't bother, take the EX to the dealer and they will use the VIN to get the default code or they will "hook up" a computer scanner and scan for the code. Once you have the default code WRITE IT DOWN ON THE SAME PAGE FOR THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CREATE A CUSTOM CODE. This way you'll always know where to look.

I have a '99, so the instructions might be different. Crawl into the wheel well of the driver's side, and look up into the dash, toward the outside of the truck. You will see a black box, with a white label, with a bunch of numbers and sometimes "bar codes" on it. The big five digit number is your master number.
I just got a 2001 Expedition EB and it was right where you said it was. It was on a white box right above the steering stem. This might help with some confusion because in mine there was a black box a little lower with a 5-digit code and a white box deeper also with a 5-digit code. A little trial and error and it worked.
