i'm new to the forum things and to diesels somewhat , i have a 1985 F250 four wheel drive / four speed , it has (as far as i can tell) around 189000 , original miles and was running fine ,then on the way back from town , it started running rough and smoking alittle , i got home found the return lines leaking fixed those and now it is still running sort of rough and smoking really bad , a whitish/gey color , seems to clear up on the highway somewhat any ideas jammer p.s. good forum thing alot of good stuff
i just changed the fuel filter and drained the sep. a couple of times , right after it started acting up , thanks alot for the reply , it helps to someone is on our side , i am going to get a gas can with some diesel in it and hoot it to the in side of the seperator and see if new fuel will help, it thats not it then i guess i'll be dropping it off at , the shop , don't like that much , never had anyone work on my stuff anyway i'll let you guys kow how the fuel can goes
jammer
When you drained the stock water seperator, it probably did not seal.
So now it is sucking air in through the drain hose.
Many people here have used a bolt shoved in the drain hose to block the air with good results.
Since the seperator is so far from the IP and filter, once the bolt is in place it will take a while for all of the air to be cycled past the IP.
It should run better once it is though.
when my truck had the stock 6.9 in it, and it did that, it ended up being a dropped valve on number 7.....it still pulled the goosneck and truck i was hauling home. i thought i had lost an injector
thnaks i'll try that , it has a valve on the end with a cap , however it would appear that the clamp is striped i'll putting a new one on it . also i'm going to try to runn clean fuel through it , but your right if it is leaking , it'll suck air good point , have to go to work for the week ,i'll be back this weekend i'll let you guys know what i found out saturday thanks again jammer
hey guys and gals , i guess , i took my 85 f250 , to the shop due to working out of town and the problem appears to be a broken governor , what broke for sure i'm real sure, but thats seems to be the problem , bradley diesel in k-falls oregon is rebuilding it for 600.00 dollars and i'll let you know if it is fixed for sure or not , thanks forthe info , hope this helps someone . pay it foward sort of , thanks again jammer
thnaks for the good advie e were all right sort of , it would appear that the governor broke cost 996.50 , had it rebuilt , and they put glow plugs in it so it seems to be running fine , going to powers oregon to for x-mas have agood one jammer
