won't start

Ive got a '96 7.3L F350 with 220k on it. When I turn the key relay #4 under the hood clicks and the wait to start light blinks in sync with the click of the relay. Any help?

Thanks

What about the selenoid on the engine? Does it make any noise. If a relay is clicking and the WTS light is flashing, something is shorted out. There are 2 selenoids on top of the engine, on the passenger side by the valve cover. I can't remember which one is for the glow plugs and which one goes to the starter. Figure out which one goes to the GP's, and cross the terminals with a screwdriver. Sparks will fly, and the screwdriver will get hot. Hold that for about 30 seconds and see if that warms the engine up enough to start. BTW, when you were trying to start it before, was there any white smoke coming from the tailpipe?

How rude of me, Welcome to FTE! There aren't many people on here today so that would explain the lack of responses. Holiday weekend so many of the regulars are busy doing stuff with their families or shopping.

Was also reminded about this in another thread, try unplugging your fuel filter heater.

You are correct MissIndependent. These newer style selenoids are easy to jump across. The old ones like on the 70's and such you needed a wire. The main terminals are on the sides so you can't arc across them with a screwdriver.

If you cross out the GP relay the engine will start and cut on and off in sync with the flashing WTS light

Try unplugging the heater on the fuel filter housing.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ure-cause.html

Look at the 6th post in this thread for finding the heater in the fuel filter housing.

I might make sure the charging system is working properly & the batteries are fully charged, look at all the fuses carefully ...

In the distribution box under the hood , there are 4 small relays , try switching the positions of them
