hey guys ive posted b4 and got some good answers but nothing has helped. ive read every thing on here and other places to but need some help. here goes. 1990 f150 4x4 auto 351 with the e4od. out of the blue it started going up inrpms to shift gears from 1-2 and 2-3. take ing off feels like the engine is missing or its pulling something heavy almost. then i get real bad shudder going into 2nd and then into 3rd but then it quits and runs fine and smooth pulled codes and got 11,33,and 62. pass egr and i believe torque converter clutch? any way heres what ive done so far. drained trans fluid and torque converter. replaced filter. cleaned and checked mlps, vss, rabs, and checked solenoid pack. everything passed. everything within specs. just drove it and still doing the exact same thing. truck has 130,000 or so on it. never driven hard and never been off road. i do run 35s with the stock gearing of 355. gear shifts are 15,25,35 and 45.. did codes again koeo and now all i got was 11,33.i do have a tube of dr.tranny instant shudder fixx from napa. i didnt want to use it unless im out of options. i thought torque convereter shudder was at highway speeds?. is it maybe not unlocking or something? thanks guys
ok i put in the shudder fixx and drove it around for about 20miles. pretty much the same thing. starting off u can feel it slipping a bit then as it shifts into 2nd it really shudders from 15-20 mphs. then it shifts great in every gear. yes its going into all the gears. i hit o/d off and it kicks down push it again and u can feel it shift again all shifts are smooth except 1-2 takes a little time and major shudder like the whole truck shakes. if i ease out from a stop its not as bad as when i get on it a bit. checked codes again ( i have a scanner) koeo i now get 11(pass) 33(egr) and 62 again( converter clutch right? the 4/3or3/2 pressure switch failure is just 4 the aode trans right?) evenn though everything was within specs( mlps/solenoid pack and vss) could one still be bad enuf to cause this? i did the koer and only got 11( pass and 33 (egr). my vss is at the transfer case and i rubn 35 in tires with the stock 355 gears. maybe the computer isnt getting the right feed back from vss? or is it really gonna be the torque converter?
It sounds like a torque converter issue to me. But you may want to get the code 62 problem sorted out first. No need in tearing the tranny out unnecessarily.
isnt code 62 saying its the converter? isnt the converter clutch inside the the converter? does the 4/3 and 3/2 pressure switch apply to the e4od or is it just for the aode? amd what exactly is the converter clutch and what exactly are the 4/3 3/2 pressure switch? is that the gears? its only bad from 1-2 and sometimes very minor at 2-3. im wondering if the vss isnt sending the right speed/signal when first rolling so computer then shifts off pressure instead? would that be possible? egr wouldnt be causing this im pretty sure.ichecked solenoid pack and everything was right around 19.2 ohms. also when grounded each one did click in tranny, so thats fine. right? 2 yrs ago truck went into limp mode and was shifting sooo hard. i cleaned vss and it was fine. just wondering if any of u think maybe vss again?
