Bed Refinishing

Just finished refinishing my bed and rails under bed.

jsut though i woudl share some pictures.

Used Herculiner
Used por 15 for under bed and frame under bed.

easiest way to remove the bed was cut the bolts and dont forget to remove the gas filler. last thing dissconnect the taillights and remove the tailgate. for those of you that dont know you just need to dissconnect the supports and hold the tailgate at a 45 degree angle and pull away from the truck. it will come right out.

the bolts are about 7.50 a piece and the clips are 3.25 a piece. i was very thankful for one of the guys on here that sent me 7 of the 8. saved me so much. you can really get away with only 3 clips and just get bolts for the others. the clips are for around the gas tank. its IMPOSSIBLE to get a wrench and bolts up there.

for those of you wondering the bolt head uses a TORX - 45 socket. you can get them online or from homedepot or whatever. i woudl recommend online and get an impact one. that way you can give them hell and not have to worry about them coming loose. i put locktight on the bolts just some added security.

here are the pics

cut the bolts off, couldnt get them loose

dont forget to remove the gas filler...opps

bed off -

under the bed pretty rusty -

fresh paint on the rails looking better -

bed back on view from bottom up -

best part bed liner -

hope this helps for anyone that wants to try and do this. i woudl recommend 4 guys 3 min to get the bed off. my old man and i did the removal and we pretty much died getting it off.

I really wish this thread still had pics. I'm about to do the bed rail replacement on my truck.

I took my bed off and stood it up on end. I used a spot weld drill bit to remove the rusting reinforcement strips. I put them on bench and measured them. Went to steel yard and made these. It's now a boxed in support. Instead of inky brackets tac welded into channels where the bolt goes thru, I used pipe. I left ends open and drilled drain holes. I used Eastwood internal frame paint sprayed inside. Outside paint needs to be redone as it was early November and too cold for painting. I used 60yr. Self tappers to run thru floor to the new strips. Beauty of this design is they are removable for repainting or total replacement individually.

Of course I just put a basic fifth wheel hitch on my truck. Wish I would of had time to do this before putting that hitch in.
