Hello everyone! Name's David, I'm from J.C. MO, and I just aquired a 96 crew cab, shortbed, 4x4, with 206k. I was lookin for some info to start modding this thing and stumbled upon this site. I've learned alot so far, just reading. You guys know your stuff! Anyway, plans so far are full set of gauges, adrenaline HPOP, stage ones from rosewood, tymar intake, TW or PHP tunes, and full exhaust. And some other small mods along the way. I've been looking for the right downpipe and want to do a 3.5" but I can't find one. Only 3" is what I'm seein. I noticed some of you are runnin 3.5's and 4's. Where did you get them? My plan is to do the down pipe and make my own 5" exhaust setup exiting before the rear tire. Any input/suggestions is highly appreciated! Oh and happy turkey day!!!!!!!!!!
Most of us run a 3" at the top for sure and then some of us get a step one like me. It starts at three inch on top and goes to 4 inch on the bottom. My exhaust is done the same way as you are just I have 4" exiting before the tire. A 3 1/2 from my understanding is a real beotch to get in. I think guys said one like I have and just 4" exhaust is big enough for up to about 500hp. Dale at tymar is where I got mine and I love it. Good instructions with it and a nice fit.
Happy Thanksgiving David. And a 3 inch pipe is probably all you will need. I always heard its a pain in the **** to install anything bigger. So I would go by route of a plain 3 inch, and everything on your list, is a good start.
Welcome to FTE David. You have started out the best way, reading and learning. I think you are on the right track on modding your truck. There are a lot of people here who love to help others. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I currently have a 3" DP to a 4" exhaust, but I will be changing it to 5" soon. (I HOPE) LOL
Welcome David, like what's been said, a three inch is fine. I started out with a three inch and it was just fine, great improvement in performance. Then I read a add for sale a exhaust system Bassine (sp) complete from turbo to the back bumper for sale, cheap. It came with a 3 1/2 inch downpipe. I had a heck of a time getting in my 3 inch but the 3 1/2 was a BITC!. I had to use a power ????, I just drew a blank. I bent the crap out of the firewall to get it to fit. I kept posting on here, what's behind the firewall, am I going to hurt anything? I was told to go for it. Performance is even better!
Thanks for the responses everyone! I know even the 3" is a pita on these obs's. Already done one on dads old truck, and the firewall ended up looking alot like collision damage when i was done. It's been a while since though and figured well it's just another half inch. lol......Maybe I will just get on the horn with dale and see about a 3" and 3-5 adapter
