i have a 2001 f-350 , srw, 4x4, 7.3, D1 , 3.73 ratio limited slip axle.
i pull a 8000lb fifth wheel camper, when pulling on turns the rear end chatters really bad, i had ford change the oil 2 times and still have the problem that is getting worst, what can i do?
if the limited slip clutches are worn out then the carrier has to be removed to replace them, if you are a good back yard mechanic with the gauges it can be done, you can find all the specs online, as for the gear oil, a good synthetic, like amsoil, mobile 1, they also sell the friction modifier. I've had good luck with both of them.
good info on the readings, i think i will change it my self .
i install mag- tech cover , last time i had it change ford installed 6 quarts of 75w-140 and 2 - 4 oz additive lubricant, my question is can i use 75w-140 royal purple synthetic and a better after market additive and how much additive should i add?
Stock the ford sterling 10.5 should take 3.5qts 75w140 with 4oz XL-3 friction modifier...If you bought a new cover with a 6qt capacity and only put 2-4 oz of friction modifier in it then you put less than 50% the amount of friction modifier required. This is probably your problem. I just hope it isn't too late for your LS clutch.
Royal purple comes with additive already in it... some do and some don't, so read the sticker on the container carefully and CHECK EVERY BOTTLE YOU BUY... Once i bought the mobile 1 stuff and got it home only to discover i had grabbed 2 bottles with modifier in it and 2 without...
Now I use the royal purple without adding any additional friction modifier and I don't have chatter...
