First time engine swap need help

I need some generalsetup instructions on engine swaps any help would be awesome but my first question would have to be positioning the block. With a carbed engine should the block be level front to back and side to side or is it ok to setup a few degrees off.im talking maybe 5 degrees at the most.
Thanks

I think the intake manifold has a bit of tilt built into it. So dead level at the intake manifold where the carb mounts.

You'll want atleast 3 degrees angle on the motor. If you level the motor off the carb mounting area on the intake you should be good.

What the other guys said about having the carb pad level, front to back, is right. It's also very important to have the engine level, side to side, as well.

Tell us more about your project. What engine/trans combo are you putting into what vehicle? Suspension type? Is there a particular problem you're having?

I have a 56 f100 that im swapping in a 460 BBF C6 trans and a mustang II front end ive been having trouble with the crossmember hitting the oil pans i have. I bought a front and rear sump but same thing but i think i may have a solution From another thread i started. The block and trans fit great its just my motor mounts wont line up with my crossmember if i push it forward enough to clear but it will fit at a 5 degree angle from the carb pad. I will have to look into some different motor mounts and possably notching my mustang II crossmember for the rear sump to fit like a couple other guys have done on this fourm. I figured it had to be level all the way around i thought i heard it somwhere before but couldnt find any info on the web to back it up other than this tread. Thanks for your help.

Others are exactly right, carb mounting pad should be level. It is possible to angle it more, but then a tapered carb mounting spacer would need to be used. They used to be available from the aftermarket years back when raising the engine in a drag race car for weight transfer was the hot technology, but I don't know if anyone still sells them today. You might find them at a supplier to the racing boat market since their engines are often mounted at a steeper angle.
Just to complete the parameters: the centerline of the engine/tranny needs to be parallel to the centerline of the frame, although the entire assembly can be offset to either side for steering or header clearance. Just don't angle the assembly.
