Over Cab Lights

First of all, please no jokes about my limited mechanical ability. Ok, just laugh. But if you need some good legal advice.... Alright, so I have installed the over cab lights on my 1997 F250 HD and have got power to them if I run the wire with the fuse to the battery and then to the switch (yes it works) however, how do I run the wire to the fuse box so that they will only come on when the headlights come on? It seems that right now, I have a continues source of power from the battery to the switch and thus it will eventually drain the battery. Ok, laugh all you want but when I take out the #4 fuse, the headlights still work, so what is up?

Welcome to FTE.

I would just tie the over the cab lights into the headlight switch. This way they will come on with the running/parking lights.

And how would I do this? Do I take the switch out of the dash? We are talking about the round thing that I pull for the lights to come right? Even I am laughing now. This was my father's truck and it is just sentimental to me, so I am restoring it in his honor.

You can also tie into the fuse box on the hot side of the parking light , or tail light fuse...

But if you need some good legal advice
Can we hold you to that ?.....

Got ya, I will find the hot side of the #4 fuse. And yes, if anyone does need a non mechanically inclined, but grew up on a farm good overall guy in North Carolina for some legal advice I am at your beckoning call. I hope all have a great holiday and remember, Field Sobriety tests are not admissible, and you have 30 minutes from the time that you are down town to breathe. Just don't put yourself in that situation.

let me clarify that, it is in your best interest not breathe in the field and if you attempt to do any of the tests, they can be used but without prejudice.

Is that true in IN? I don't DUI, just curious if that's a federal thing or state thing.

This is a sore subject for me. Drink and drive and you should be punished to the full extent of the law, PERIOD. When you lose a family member to a selfish idiot like that then you too will understand.

To nsandhuiii: Pull the passenger side kick panel off below the dash. there is a two wire plug, black & brown wires I believe. this is the "feed" for the roof/cab lights. It is already fused and hot when the parking lights/head lights are turned on. check it with a test ligh to be sure. find a match to this plug (Pep Boys/Auto Zone/etc) and wire your lights in here, or cut the factory plug off and make your own connector.
