I've posted a thread similar to this. I sold my 02 F-250 & I want to get a longbed with a 6 speed this spring. I was just wondering what would happen if I bought a dually & took the dual wheels & spacers off? I would put a flatbed on it, so I wouldn't have to worry about the rear fenders. I am thinking of putting single wheels all the way around but I am wondering would the single wheels clear the front fenders? I know it would the rear wheels would track narrower than the front due to a dually rear axle being narrower, but would the tires have a shorter life due to this? I'd appreciate any comments. Happy Thanksgiving! Eat til you pop & drink til you drop!

id point and laugh at you!i see that all the time! whats the purpose? why not just buy a f250?
thanks for the input guys, but some of the roads around the ranch are a tight squeeze for a srw pickup. a dually wouldn't stand a chance. even with a flatbed, don't you have to get a wider bed to accomodate the duals. Look on fleabay, there's mostly "fatbutts" on there. Besides 4 tires are bad enough to keep changed, let alone 6. You are gonna be changing a tire at least once a month.
I guess I should be more clear. I'm planning on taking the dual wheels off & putting wheels of a srw F-250 or 350. Would I have to worry about front fender clearance? Also, does anybody know of a company that maks whitespoke "wagon wheels" for a 99+ Super Duty?
seems that what he is finding is duallys more then singles, otherwise i'm sure he would just go for the srw truck. if you remove the spacers and have the wheels from the proper year range of truck you will not have a problem with fender clearances i don't think. seems like it would be the same front axle.

Thank you. I'm just saying One with a 6 speed is pretty hard to find, & I'm gonna grab up the first one I see with a psd & 4x4.
As for the high rail idea, I want a Super Duty. I just sold my 02 F-250 cc sb Lariat due to health problems & I loved that truck, but I've always been a gear jammer, so I wasn't real fond of the auto & anyone who has tried to pull a gooseneck trailer with the short bed knows what I'm talking about. I am just grateful the truck had a hd headache rack on it. If anyone has a lb super cab 4x4 PSD super Duty with a 6 speed they wanna sell in the next few months I'd appreciate if they pm me.
Okay we are talking about a Super Duty with a PSD & a 6 speed, not a stinkin' hi-rail. I want something I can also go to town in too. We've got ATV's & a 67 Jeepster for the really narrow. Dad has an 03 F-250 & it gets around fine, but a neighbor had a 90 F-350 dually & if you've ever seen a dually with the raer fenders all busted up (fiberglass doesn't really dent) then you would know what I am talking about. Does a DRW use spacers or a totally different rotor/hub assembly?
I don't have a DRW sitting in my driveway at the second, so I can't actually go measure this, but since no one's mentioned it yet, I'm just gonna throw out there. Doesn't the rear axle have longer tubes to handle the deeper backspacing on the dually wheel? Meaning going to standard wheels all around will result in the back wheels being further out than the fronts (assuming you pull the spacers up front)?
It uses a different rear differential/axle. Different width.
Not to worried about the rear, but I should have said the front axle. Sorry, my mistake.
From what I have seen, most hi-rails are auto, but I could be wrong. I am going up to a GSA auction this spring, so I will mre than likely get a Forest Service or BLM vehicle. Whatever it is, I will put a flatbed on it, so I do not have to worry about the rear end, as long as the tires don't rub the frame.
