Found an 86 F250, 4x4, 351W, C-6 standard cab with a fiberglass canopy for $1875 little to no rust and just one dent in the drivers door. Interior is in pretty good shape. He is willing to give me a couple hundred for my 80 F-150, which is need of a new windshield and clutch.
I could really use the additional payload, and the ability to get unstuck when out getting firewood in the truck. Just not sure if I should go for it or not. I know beauty (value) is in the eye of the beholder, but I don't want to get into this and regret it. She seems to drive fine, with a little backfire when you give her a little throttle in park....
r u comfy with the diff in price? sounds like a lot, to me. i bought a donor for 300$. my "keeper" was just 600$. you got 4x4, but 1000$ more!? i dont know, my friend. if you are having second thoughts, maybe you should pass
I am thinking the same, I just don't know. What does give me pause is there are so many more things that need attention on 4 wheel drive models. Also the prospective girl has dual air pumps, I'm not even sure I want to deal with that. Plus I could use the money to spice up my girl... she just won't have the extra weight cap that the 250 has.
And yes I know highboys are awesome, but I've got a buddy who's got one. We were discussing local mud holes the other day, and he said "Why don't you go over to Fun Road and try that out? You could get through there" And I said, "And you couldn't?" And he said "I ain't got power steering, I can't turn good enough to dodge the trees."
Aaahhh, they may have tougher drivetrains and all, but sometimes when you're thinking about solid axles and NP205 transfer cases, you forget about little basic things like power steering.
ya i can imagine life without power steering, or on board diagnostics, i worked with a guy at GM and we made fun of him cause he was there when they started comming out with fuel injection and car computers, o god good times
petroskie, good looking truck, comrad! robert, the moderator, dave, wasn't being snippy...he was just saying that there is a forum area with guys that are into the 73 thru 79 trucks that could shed some lite on the highboy Q. i know a couple guys that way, prefer the dentsides. at one time i did, myself. to me, the highboy, merely looked like it had a liftkit....but came from the factory that way
