The windows on my 96 F-150 just stopped working for no apparent reason. I've checked all fuses and the CB, and checked with a test light. I have no power at the switch.
I've got a window rolled down and cats in the neighborhood - can anyone help?
Tape a trash bag over the window until you can figure it out. Use a fluke and start checking power from the source to the switch and figure out where it stops.
Anyone know which wire to jump to? I can't find a wiring diagram that is any help whatsoever, and I live in the middle of nowhere, where finding a manual isn't a likely possibility.
Easiest way... open up the inside of your driverside door and use a test light on the contacts in your drivers side... that should tell you the location of the hot wire... probably won't tell you the wire color but will show the location of the one that is supposed to be hot.
power windows from what i can remember are easy enough... they have a power, gound, power to window motor. all you need to do is send power to the window motor by closing the circut. run a power wire and a grounded wire to the switch... it's only DC power... the worst you can do is send power back on a gounded wire and blow a fuse... if you are worried about it that much, call a local ford dealer and ask one of the service techs which contact or wire color to send power through. I'd look at my wire diagrams but don't have them here at work and don't have internet at home...
Also if you can get to the motor in the door or the 2 wires running to it... you can just run power and ground strait to the window motor/wires to kick it on and close the window. that would keep you from putting power to a ground running else where in the truck...
There is no local Ford dealer. I dug out the old multimeter and got the window up, but now I need to find the root of the problem. There is no wiring damage, and there is no power between the fuse panel and the doors (both doors are dead).
Is there a relay in the system, and if so, where is it?
I'd have to refer to the wiring manuals (which i don't have at this instant)... I'll look tonight but maybe one of the other guys will chime in and let you know sooner...
Just pulled out the owners manual to my 96...looks like relay 17 in Power Distribution Box (under hood) powers fuse 2,6,11,14,17.....14 is the window fuse. However it also powers Alternator charge lamp (whatever that is) Hope this helps. This is what the other fuses powered by that fuse power.

The problem has got to be in the cab, but I'm at a loss for where. I've tried putting a jumper across the terminals for the circuit breaker, and got nothing.
Checking with the ohmmeter, it is open between the fuse panel and the switches.
