As expected, the 54 year old nuts/bolts were tough! Soaked them in PB Blaster and it still took a 4’ steel bar on a wrench to get the passenger side front loose. Even then it took about two minutes of leaning on it before it finally let go. I got the bolts out of the rear but not the front, yet.
Won’t be able to work on it this week until Friday, but I hope to get it off by Saturday and then maybe get a picture or two on here.
A lot of times it's easier to get at the head of a bolt than the nut to cut it off. Use a cutoff wheel to cut an X across the head and knock off the quarters with a chisel. Punch out the shank of the bolt.
Julie and AX, more good info to file away for future ref. I'm leary now on the blue torch wrench. I think it may have been the demise of a precious 20" 5 x 8" snap ring wheel trying to get the 1-1/2" nut / lug nut combos off. After working for days to find and retrieve, then strip, powder coat, mount tires and balance - the mounting face had gotten warped. Be careful with heat.
Yeah, I've used the cutoff wheel on a bolt head but never ATF and acetone. I'd put that one in my memory bank but think I'll write it down instead. As long as I can find where it's written...
Have a great Thanksgiving and safe travel if going on the road!
