looking into this mod, so this heater that is blocking air flow will acually heat up the intake air enough to stop the engine from making white smoke when its cold out? i like the idea of more air flow but dont want it to throw a code at me? can someone inform me a little more about this. thanx
Get rid of the heater & associated hot & ground wire. Tie a smaller wire with a 470 ohm 1w resistor between the relay terminal where the positive lead was & ground. That will take care of the code.
It only sets a "soft" code. Meaning it will never actually trigger the SES light. Also, the conditions under which the AIH activates are so rare as to be ridiculous. All it does is increase warm up under cold conditions. Depending on where you live, you will probably never even see it in operation.

You will not get a code.... it throws a "soft code" which means that it doesn't trip the SES light. Also I just did mine and am not noticing any white smoke while idling in the mornings waiting for the truck to warm up... I read somewhere that numerous things have to be right before the AIH will even activate, and most of the time these things never happen..
Yep, Clay told me that there are like 7 things that have to happening at the same time for your AIH to be working. He also said you rarely see more than like 5. Just do the mod. Clay's delete plugs look great in there!
well thats tells me alot, we see minus 20 degree C where i live, the truck was idling the other morning and that noisy ebpv was on and there was white smoke coming out of the tail pipe? what kind of scanner do you need to read all of these codes people talk about? a ob2 scanner or what ever they are?, i got the truck in august and just insured it last week, funds are limited and i needed to do a couple things to the truck first. i did the ccv mod and saw this aih and wondered about it. so with it getting pretty cold outside do you guys think it will kick in?

Yes!After you start it up and let it idle for a min,you will hear the engine fast idle and make a hissing noise. That is when the flap closes on the exhaust side of the turbo. This helps the engine warm up faster,by holding some of the exhaust pressure back.
If you tap your brake pedal it will shut off the EBPV and idle the engine down.Mine use to trun on around 40*F.
do the ebpv and the aih plug work together? if i take out the aih and plug it will it affect the operation of the ebpv, id like to keep that as it gets cold where i live and the sooner it warms up the better, and i noticed to when i am driving and the truck is not yet completely warmed up i can here that the ebpv must be slightly on because i can hear the hissing as i have no muffler and can hear it against buidlings as i drive by. is that normal for it to be slightly closed when the truck isnt warm, it didnt seem right but if i put my foot into the throtle it must open up cuz it sounds normal again, it only does it at low power rpms.
No -- they are independent of each other. AIH is *only* there for smoke control, and does nothing for warm up. Sounds like your EBPV is working perfectly. When it's really cold, it will close up a bit when at low RPMs. Mine never did, but I've never seen anything colder than 20s in mine.
thanx for re assuring me on the ebpv operation, i was thinking that maybe it was stickin but i guess not. i just want to say thanx to everyone for helping me with all this new information. this is the best sight for ford trucks that i have found and i am planning on asking about a million other questions in the years to come with the trucks minor problems. thanx fte guys

So they tell me. Same thing they said about the EBPV but because I have an Excursion, and I am told that the Republik of Kalifornia trucks have the same sort of tuning, they are more sensitive and will trip out a CEL.
