getting some pieces of 'stuff' ready for paint... suspension parts, misc frame parts...
driveshaft ??? do you go ahead and paint the u-joints/yoke or just tape it off and paint the shaft portion ??? I've never noticed if they were completely painted or not ???
I generally paint the driveshaft but mask the collar where u-joints slip in and the yoke where it slips in trans.
This is to make installing the new parts easier than cleaning off the paint.
I do not think it would hurt to spray the ujoint.....but may look better if you mask them....Bill
like walford said, tape off anything that inserts into something else, otherwise the outside diameter will be just thousandths larger and wont slide in properly without removing the paint anyway.
that's what I figured... the trans end is a slip joint and won't get paint but the rear end is a flanged fitting that butts up to a plate on the diff. I think that will get paint and I'll just scrape the faces clean...
if ur truck is anything like mine, powder coating is way too expensive considering the truck shucks the dag gone things left and right. my truck is a torque monster and will either pull what ur hooked up to or shuck the shaft.
Have you considered getting the drive shaft powder coated? It takes a lot of abuse!
nah Julie... p.c. is too expensive for one piece, have to disassemble it (I hate taking u-joints apart) and would take too long to turn it around... I'm going with same color as frame on this piece...
