U joints maybe?? please help

im thinking transfer case now. feeling confident about it
UPDATE:
I checked things out more thoroughly today and while messing around with the transfer case noticed that it was grinding and a pain in the *** to put into "N" and 4LO not hard to go into 4HI but when going back through the gears it was hard to shift into all options re shifted through all 2HI-4HI-N-4LO and it is now grinding and tough to put into all gears, checked level level was fine kinda dirty but not bad. test drove again and that is where the sound appears to be coming from. im afraid i have fried the transfer case. Is it worth it to rebuild it or install new or remanufactured one? also are there better transfer cases to put in there? i have the BW 1356
