Oil filter wrench

Just bought 08 F150 5.4. I was checking out the oil filter and there is no way to use my old school o/f wrench. All the socket style cap style wrenches at my local parts stores fit filters like Purolater or Fram. Nothing for the Motorcraft. Any suggestion for a wrench for FL 820S. Thanks

I use one with the metal strap. Given the badly engineered orientation it the only thing I can get to work...

Autozone or Advanced have a great metal one that fits the cap of the motocraft filters (with all the tiny flights opposed to just 10 flats or whatever like a fram has). I find it much easier than a strap wrench. I use a 3/8" 8-10" extension with a wobble head.

+1. I changed the oil for the first time in the 07 I just bought and had to use one like this. Barely had enough room but somehow made it work. I don't expect to have to use it from now on though since I'm installing the filter now so I know it won't be twisted down as far as it can go.

I use a metal end cap to change the filter. It is much easier that the strap wrench. I posted the following thread about this end cap please check it out .....

I put the filter on hand tight, and I've never had any trouble with one coming loose, and I don't have to fight trying to get a wrench around it.

I have the metal cap that fits the Motorcraft. Every autozone I have seen has these. I install mine hand tight as well, but they don't always come off by hand. The K&N is nice due to the nut on top.

These are pretty nifty as well. Been menaing to try one out.

I like the metal strap ones the best.I tried one of those rubber strap ones before and it didn't grip like the metal ones do,so it became trash...lol

you know what works best of all, an old fasioned screw driver punched through the old oil filter and a good turn to loosen it (when taking off) (its cheap thin metal) but yeah those band oil filter wrenches work good for putting new ones on.

Screw driver punch is a last resort for me. Not only is it more of a PITA on the 5.4 than the cap wrench, it's twice as messy
