Today I was able to pull a fuel tank select valve with the pigtail and all the lines to replace the missing one on my 85. Pulled a rear tank too. All of it came of a later model...I'm thinking it was an 86 because the column was able to be used for parts between the two trucks...but the donor truck was a 460 not a diesel. Will the tank fit and is the wiring for the valve the same?
tank will fit in the frame rail, but you may not be able to use it - the diesel tank has a specific sender in it, which requires a rather large opening in the tank, the fuel-injected trucks have the same size senders so a tank from one of them will work, however if the donor truck had a carburetor it may have a tank with a rather small opening and your diesel duel sender unit will physically not fit in there. So, how big is the opening on your gasser tank? 3.5" or so is what you want, if you only got 2" then it won't work for you.
About the selector valve, that I have no clue about...
It turns out it was the correct one. The tank was identical and the sender fit right on the ring no problem. The valve was a gamble since it was used but score on that one as it's working too and now my gas gauge and tank select switch are working. I should have looked a little closer at the lines, got everything buttoned up and purged and with the truck running, one little cracked line and gas was flying everywhere. Fixed the line and things are good
